Full description
Spence Bate, C., 1872, Ancient Map of Dartmoor (Article in Serial). SDV337015.
'Laye Yeat'. One of 8 'Yeats' on the 1478? map of Dartmoor. The name suggests that this is the gate now known as Leigh Moor Gate, at the end of Leigh Lane, east of Bittaford, giving access to the southern slopes of Ugborough Beacon and to the valley of the Lud Brook. The ancient map places 'Laye Yeat' west of the Lud Brook which is incorrect, Leigh being some distance east of the stream. Leigh Moor Gate still gives access to the open moor on land used by the Wrangaton Golf Club.
