Full description

Ordnance Survey, 1880-1899, First Edition Ordnance 25 inch map (Cartographic). SDV336179.

'Fatacott' marked on 1880s-1890s 25 inch Ordnance Survey map.

Gover, J. E. B. + Mawer, A. + Stenton, F. M., 1931, The Place-Names of Devon: Part One, 73 (Monograph). SDV1312.

Fatacott is 'Fattecot(e)' in the assizes of 1238 and 1249. Spelt 'Vattecote' in a document of 1370 and 'Fatcat' in the parish registers of 1682. The first element is probably a late Old English name of the nickname type from Faetta, 'fat one', hence Fat's Cottages.

National Trust, 1984, Clovelly and East Titchberry (Report - Survey). SDV337536.

Collings, A. G. + Manning, P. T. + Valentin, J., 2007, The North Devon Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty. Phase 1. Archaeological Survey. Summary Report, No. 253 (Report - Assessment). SDV339712.
