HER Number:MDV3080
Name:Owley mill, corn mill

Summary

Owley mill, corn mill. On the right bank of glaze brook at owley bridge. A small single storey millhouse now used as a linhay and car-port. Two monolithic pillars support the lintel of the car-port, the stone showing tare and feather cutting. Hipped roof is old; walls restored and cement pointed. A beam, front to rear, is a trimmed tree trunk, about 6m long, rotting at one end. Remains of the wheelpit at rear: levels suggest undershot wheel. Leat from bend in river across meadow is now obliterated.1910 os map infers that the mill was still in use at that time. A relative of mr henry luscombe, however, maintains that it was not in use at 1910, and that the wheel was of the overshot type.
