Summary

Large cairn consisting of an earth and stone base surmounted by a mound of stones. It measures 28 metres in diameter and 1.7 metres high with a flat top and a hollow in the centre, suggesting it has been disturbed in the past. Another, smaller cairn lies to the south-east.

There are two cairns on the summit of Eastern Beacon.

(28/03/1950) Cairn on Ugborough Beacon. Large flat-topped grass-covered cairn with shallow depression in centre. Situated 30 metres from SX65NE/192 (MDV3106). Measures 27.5 metres diameter (edge to edge), 1.2 metres high.

Ugborough Beacon cairn '3' at SX66705878 of 26.0 metres diameter by 1.5 metres high. Large cairn to the south of Ugborough Beacon is not badly damaged. Probably originally flat topped but the upcast from the central pit has added an outer rim to its surface.

These two very large cairns on the brow of Ugborough Beacon each consist of an earth and stone base surmounted by a mound of stones. The more westerly cairn is 28 metres in diameter and 1.7 metres high with a flat top and a hollow in the centre, suggesting it has been disturbed in the past.

Visited on 22nd January 2021, surveyed and photographed. Large embanked platform cairn south-east of Eastern Beacon: stony flat-topped mound 25 metres diameter, 0.9 metres high, outer bank is 1.4 metres wide, 0.4 metres high, large hollow 3.4 metres north to south, 2.2 metres east to west, 0.8 metres deep with spoil mounds in centre of cairn.
