Department of Environment, Untitled Source (Migrated Record). SDV330172.

Limekiln approx 3m se of cone cottage, 19th century. Unrendered stone rubble. Built into bank with circular well. Stone rubble retaining walls (doe).


1904, Untitled Source (Report - Survey). SDV73443.

Vis=14/12/1996 (holley) kiln head is now very overgrown. Some masonry movement has occurred at northern tunnel, metal support has been fitted. Two drawhole access tunnels have stone voussoirs. To s of kiln are some wall foundations, now incorporated into shed. May have been site of lime shed or limeburners' shelter. 'limekiln' marked on 25" 2nd ed (1904) os map (holley).

Limekiln built of stone rubble with 1 furnace and 2 drawholes. Furnace, diam approx 3 metres diameter, filled with waste. Lime quarry behind limekiln.

'Limekiln' marked on 25" 2nd ed (1904) os map. Lies c 3m se of Cone Cottage. In 1996 very overgrown & some structural damage. 2 drawholes. Wall foundations to south incorporated into a shed. Possible site of lime shed or limeburner's shelter. Quarry behind kiln.

Limekiln approximately 3 metres south-east of Cone Cottage. Limekiln. C19. Unrendered stone rubble. Built into bank with circular well, the 2 exposed sides projecting in a V-shape each with a semi-circular arched corbelled swallow with rough stone voussoirs. Stone rubble retaining walls extend from each side. Combe Martin has the highest concentration of kilns in North Devon. They are ranged in a line close to the limestone quarries, the belt running parallel to and south-west of the long village street.
