Full description

Department of Environment, 1984, Marwood, 23 (List of Blds of Arch or Historic Interest). SDV85085.

Barn, approximately 30 metres north-east of Whitefield Barton. Late 17th century or early 18th century of roughly coursed and dressed stone blocks with cob in upper part to loft, rebuilt with breeze blocks to right. Pantiled roof with gable ends and gable ventilator slot. Central double wooden door. Horse-engine house to rear with stone infill in the panels. Principals survive but trenched purlins and rafters have been replaced.

Correspondence includes omments on layout and details of building by Conservation Officer for North Devon District Council on site visit 9th November 2004. The survival of roof trusses, supporting beams and flywheels in the threshing barn. Within the horse engine house the flywheel and beam survive. The building is currently of stone and cob, with tapering stone piers in the engine house. Other details: Plans attached.
