Jenkinson, T., 2007, Barnstaple to Ilfracombe B3230 (Report - Survey). SDV338882.

Site visit 11th July 2007. A milestone dating from circa 1879, located approximately 50 metres west of the junction with the A39, just east of Youings Drive, under a tall hedge, on the south side of the road. The stone may have been moved from the main route out of Barnstaple, possibly during road improvements. It was found to be worn, with an Ordnance Survey benchmark retaining some white paint residue, under the legend '1/BARUM'.
There are relatively few milestones surviving on the route of the B3230, from Barnstaple to Ilfracombe. The road was built circa 1827, but the markers date from 1879 and were set at the roadside just prior to the closure of the Barnstaple Turnpike Trust, each bearing the medieval Latin name for the town of 'BARUM'.

Ordnance Survey, 2013, MasterMap (Cartographic). SDV350786.

Milestone marked as 'MS' on modern mapping.

English Heritage, 2013, National Heritage List for England (National Heritage List for England). SDV350785.
