Full description

South West Heritage Trust, 1838-1848, Digitised Tithe Maps and Transcribed Apportionments (Cartographic). SDV359954.

Large, narrow range of buildings shown on the Tithe Map, bordering the western side of the farm at Waybarton.

Department of Environment, 1987, Chagford, 66 (List of Blds of Arch or Historic Interest). SDV350463.

Courtyard of farm buildings approximately 8 metres south-west of Waye Barton.
Courtyard of farm buildings, now all used as stables. Probably late 18th-early 19th century, parts may be 17th century. Granite stone rubble with large dressed quoins; corrugated iron roof, formerly thatch.
Plan: three ranges of farm buildings around a long and narrow farmyard which includes a dung pit. All face into the courtyard and are now used as stables. Apart from the narrow linhay at the south-east end their former function is not certain. The north-east range was probably stables from the beginning. The south-west range was probably cow byres originally. All have haylofts over.
Interior. The carpentry detail is plain and sturdy. The roofs are a-frame trusses with pegged or spiked lap-jointed collars. The dungpit along the centre of the yard is lined with granite and terraced into the slope. It is still used. See designation record for further list details.

Ordnance Survey, 2018, MasterMap 2018 (Cartographic). SDV360652.

Shown on the modern mapping.
