Full description

Ordnance Survey Archaeology Division, 1950, SX56NE90, 19/5/1950 (Ordnance Survey Archaeology Division Card). SDV235552.

(Visited 19/5/1950) Hut C, (diameter 10.0 metres) one of four hut circles with an enclosure. Wall (width 2.0 metres, height 700 millimetres) of turf covered stones. Entrance to south; in good condition.

Group of three hut circles lying equidistant between enclosure SX56NE/41 and enclosure SX56NE/137 visible on the 1983 aerial photograph. Hut circles at SX59456710, SX59426711 and SX59476709.

At SX59406710. Hut circle terraced into the hillslope. Simple plan, single orthostat and earthwork walling type. Interior measures 5.4 metres in diameter and is defined by a 2.0 metre wide wall standing up to 0.9 metres high. A south-facing gap in the surrounding wall may represent the original doorway.

(09/08/1999) One of three impressive unenclosed hut circles lie to the south-east of enclosures MDV4046 and MDV3443.
Hut at SX 5940 6710. Internal diameter from 4.1m to 5.6m, the wall with some inner and outer facing slabs in situ is 0.8m high and the well defined entrance is on the downhill side.
