Summary

A Medieval or later tinner's hut situated within the Swincombe Head streamworks. An archaeological field survey in 1995 recorded a rectangular structure measuring 6 metres by 3.1metres, with walls surviving to a maximum height of 1.3 metres.d 1.2m wide. The interior is strewn with rubble and no obvious entrance was noted.

Full description

GREEVES, COSFORD + ROBINSON, Untitled Source (Report - Survey). SDV230166.

Des=worksheet(greeves 1988). Vis=6/5/1988 (greeves, cosford + robinson). Tinners building near head of county comb water, walls surviving to 1.5m high in north and south gables. Internal measurements 6m x 2.6m aligned nne/ssw, sunk in workings. Possible entrance in east wall (greeves, cosford + robinson).

(12/09/1995) A ruined tinners building lies on the W side of the E portion of the Swincombe Head streamworks (Monument HOB UID 1064080) at SX 63936977. The rectangular structure measures 6m NE to SW by 3.1m, with walls up to 1.3m high and 1.2m wide. The SW and NE sides are built of 7-8 courses of moorstone, while the NW and SE sides are revetted into spoil heaps. The NE side contains a possible cupboard. The interior is strewn with rubble and there is no obvious entrance.
