Summary

Hut Circle '16' of 5.5 metres diameter with walls 1.8 metres wide by 0.9 metres high at Watern Oke settlement. Boundary walls lead east and north from this structure. Excavations in 1905 recovered cooking and rubbing stones and pottery with a double line pattern.

Full description

Anderson, I. K., 1906, 11th Report of the Dartmoor Exploration Committee, 105, hut 16 (Article in Serial). SDV337055.

One of a group of 94 hut circles at Watern Oke. Hut 16; deep and circular, internal diameter 12 feet, filled up with large stones. The entrance was just east of south. Burnt stones and rubbing stones were also dug up, also pottery with double line pattern.

(1992) Hut circle terraced into the hillslope. Simple plan and coursed stone walls type. The interior measures 2.8m in diameter and is defined by a 1.8m wide wall standing up to 0.9m high. The doorway faces south-east and is partly blocked. Boundary walls lead east and south from this structure. Excavations by the Dartmoor Exploration Committee in 1905 recovered cooking and rubbing stones; also pottery with a double line pattern.
