Rear gateway of Number 2 High Street (Eastgate House) from South Street. Gateway to a former inn yard with projecting two storeys. Outbuilding on northeast side, possibly the site of a tower on the medieval town wall circuit. Welsh slate roof. Devonian limestone rubble with partly weatherboarded and slate hung first floor. Openings with timber lintels. 18th century and 19th century sash and casement windows. Altered doorways. Loft doorway over gateway. Fine 16th century and 17th century double gate rehung in later gatehouse. Doors of alternate plank and batten type with iron pegs and moulded cover strips. Remains of arched wicket gate in lefthand door.
