Full description

Anderson, I. K., 1906, 11th Report of the Dartmoor Exploration Committee, 101-113 (Article in Serial). SDV337055.

One of a group of about 94 hut circles at watern oak. Hut 38 diameter 4.57 metres; rough made with large stones, no entrance, built under the shelter of rocks or steep clitter. About 60 cooking stones and some pottery were found.

Visited in 1992. Hut circle terraced into the hillslope. Simple plan and single orthostat type. The interior measures 4.3 metres in diameter and is defined by a 1.5 metres wide wall standing up to 1.1 metres high. The doorway faces south and is partially blocked. Excavations by the Dartmoor Exploration Committee in 1905 recovered about five dozen cooking stones and some pottery.

Hut circle '9' of 4.6 metres diameter at 'Watern Oke West settlement' lies on the edge of an open plateau within the 'clitter' alongside a possibly later rectangular structure.
