Full description

Department of Environment, 1978, Totnes, 72 (List of Blds of Arch or Historic Interest). SDV342722.

Number 48 High Street (south side). Formerly listed as the National Provincial. Early 19th century town house. 3 storeys. Double-fronted with 5 windows. Hipped Welsh slate roof with projecting boxed-out eaves and rendered stacks. Plastered front with plain bands at floor levels. Plinth. Slightly recessed sash windows with exposed boxing and glazing bars; second floor with 3 blind windows; ground floor windows with side lights and plain surrounds. Entrance with good wooden doorcase with pilasters carrying open pediment with dentil cornice; round arched doorway with patterned fanlight and raised and fielded 8 panel door. Interior with early 19th century staircase. Ground floor front room with plaster dentil cornice.
