Full description

Anderson, I. K., 1906, 11th Report of the Dartmoor Exploration Committee, 101-113 (Article in Serial). SDV337055.

One of a settlement at watern oak. Hut 63; diam 3.66m. A very good specimen but much filled in with fallen stones. Entrance at south. Some cooking stones, and piles of spar and rubbers found (anderson).

Visited in 1992. Hut circle terraced into the hillslope. Straight porch, single orthostat and coursed walling type. Interior measures 4.5 metres in diameter and is defined by a 1.6 metres wide wall standing up to 0.9 metres high. Doorway partly blocked, faces south and has a 1.2 metres long straight porch connected to the east side of the passage. The southern part of the structure is filled with loose rubble. Excavations by the Dartmoor Exploration Committee in 1905 recovered some cooking stones, pieces of spar and rubbers.

This monument includes ten stone hut circles situated on a gentle south facing slope overlooking the River Tavy and forming part of the large unenclosed stone hut circle settlement at Watern Oke.
