Department of Environment, 1987, Atherington, 3 (List of Blds of Arch or Historic Interest). SDV71416.

Higher Fisherton Farmhouse including front garden railings. Probably 17th century extended to rear in late 17th or early 18th century. Painted roughcast reendered stone and some cob. Slate roof with gable end rubble stacks with offsets. Nearly symmetrical two-room plan with heated rooms each side of wide through passage containing staircase. Probably in late 17th or early 18th century a kitchen wing was added to rear of right hand room and through passage and forming overall L-shaped plan. Two storeys. Three window range. 20th century three-light casements, three panes per light. Leanto slate roof to porch with four panelled door, the upper two panels glazed.
Interior: Largely altered in 19th century with most of the joinery of this date intact. Ceiling beam and bressumer with broad chamfers to right hand room, beams boxed in to left hand room. One 17th century stop-chamfered door surround to chamfer over right hand room. Dairy fittings intact. No access to main roof space but the fee of three trusses with straight heavy principals suggest the 17th century roof structure survives.
Front garden railings of cast iron, made by T. Lake, Barnstaple.
