Clay pits of probable post-medieval to 19th century date are visible as earthwork pits on aerial photographs of 1947 onwards, to the northeast of Downelms Farm. The eastern of the two pits is irregular in shape, measures approximately 134m in length by 46m in width and appears to represent a series of smaller intercutting pits. The site of this earthwork is partly depicted as an orchard on the First Edition Ordnance Survey map, which it likely pre-dates. The clay pit to the west is irregular in shape, measures approximately 31m in length by 15m in width and is also partly depicted on the First Edition Ordnance Survey map. The earthworks remain visible on digital images derived from lidar data captured in 2016.
