Clay pits of likely post-medieval to 19th century date are visible as earthwork pits on aerial photographs of 1947 onwards and on digital images derived from lidar data captured in 2016, at Rookery Farm. The three adjacent and irregular shaped earthworks occupy an area which measures approximately 162m in length by 20m in width. The earthworks are located within the site of a former orchard (MDV116453) which is depicted here on the First Edition Ordnance Survey map of between the 1880’s-90’s, the orchard likely being established within the pits following their abandonment. The clay pits are also partly depicted here on this map.
