A quarry site of probable post-medieval to modern date is visible as a series of three earthwork pits on digital images derived from Lidar data captured during 2005, to the south of Woodmill Hospital. The irregular shaped quarry pits are partly symbolised on the First Edition Ordnance Survey map of between the 1880’s-90’s, within an area of woodland flanking the western side of the B3181. The extent of these quarry workings are, however, more extensive than has been depicted on historical maps. The larger quarry to the north measures approximately 126m in length by 38m in width, with two smaller adjacent quarries, which both measure approximately 24m in length, visible to the south. The earthwork pits are completely obscured by dense tree cover and were not visible on aerial photographs or other digital images made available to the survey.
