A squarish 1.1 hectare field was named 'newcastle' in 1777 (courtney estate survey map cited by os). Vis=22/2/1987 (os). The majority of this small field is occupied by a steep rock outcrop which is covered by dense undergrowth. The remaining part around the undulating fringes of the outcrop has been cleared and cultivated. No evidence of any significant archaeological feature was identified (os).
