An irregularly shaped pit circa 70 by 40 metres in size was visible as an earthwork on digital images derived from lidar data captured between 1998 and 2014.
The visible earthworks correspond with a pit shown on the OS First Edition 25 inch map and labelled as Old Marl Pit, and was not transcribed by the survey. The pit is not depicted on Tithe Map for Membury and therefore probably passed out of use by the mid-19th century. The earthworks are obscured by dense tree cover on digital images derived from aerial photographs of 2014.
