Summary

Former extractive pits, probably gravel pits, were depicted on the Ordnance Survey First and Second Edition 25 inch maps. More extensive earthworks, probably evidence of several phases of extraction were visible on digital images derived from lidar data captured between 1998 and 2014.

The visible earthworks partly correspond with pits depicted on the OS First and Second Edition 25 inch maps and annotated as a Gravel Pits, to the north and south of an extant field boundary. More extensive earthworks were visible on the lidar derived images. The visible earthworks are therefore interpreted as the remains of several phases of extractive activity, probably for gravel, of mid-to-late 19th century date.
