Full description

Department of Environment, 1985, Braunton, 61 (List of Blds of Arch or Historic Interest). SDV73918.

House, circa 1830-40. Rendered rubble with some brick and cob to rear. Slate roof with gable end stacks. Central staircase plan, 2 storeys. Three-window range of sashes, 2 panes over 2 panes with marginal glazing bars, over 2 similar sashes to each side of short projecting porch with ionic fluted columns and entablature. Panelled door of 2 tall panels with semi-circular heads and overlight with marginal glazing bars. Round-arched stair-window to rear. Retirement home of Edward Capern, the postman-poet, whose gravestone is in Heanton Punchardon graveyard. Other details: 12/111.
