Name:Hut B in settlement 1180 metres south of North Hessary Tor

Summary

Hut circle has a simple plan and double orthostat walling. Internal diameter 7.0 metres. Wall 2.0 metres wide 0.6 metres high. Small compartment built against north-west inside wall measures 2.0 metres in diameter, defined by rubble partition wall 1.1 metres wide, 0.5 metres high. This probably represents a temporary shelter constructed during military training or tin working.

One of a group of six 'Hut Circles' shown on 19th century map.

One of a group of nine hut circles, south of the track of an old railway.
(24/8/1950) Hut B (SX5771 7305). Of double walled type, 7.5 metres diameter, walls 2.0 metres wide, 0.5 metres high, composed of large turf covered stones, some of which have been pushed in towards the centre of the circle. Otherwise its condition is good; entrance is apparently on the southern side.

Stone hut circle terraced into hillslope at SX57717305. Simple plan and double orthostat walling. Internal diameter 7.0 metres. Wall 2.0 metres wide 0.6 metres high. Small compartment built against north-west inside wall measures 2.0 metres in diameter, defined by rubble partition wall 1.1 metres wide, 0.5 metres high. This is similar to one excavated at site F, Holne Moor (see A. Fleming, 1988) and probably represents a temporary shelter constructed during military training or tin working.

One of twelve hut circles lie in an exposed position just below the Princetown Railway track. Partially explored by the Dartmoor Exploration Committee they had previously been much pulled about by stone cutters.
