Full description

Department of Environment, 1986, Dunsford, 42 (List of Blds of Arch or Historic Interest). SDV340721.

Farrants Farmhouse and garden wall to the south west. Farmhouse. Circa early c18 remodelling of an earlier house, refenestrated in the C19. Whitewashed rendered cob on stone rubble footings; slate roof (formerly thatched), gabled at ends; projecting end stacks with brick shafts.
Plan uncertain but it appears to be 3 front rooms, the centre room may be a wide hall, flanking rooms heated from gable end stacks. At the rear 2 smaller unheated service rooms in an integral outshut with a stairwell at the centre.
2 storeys. Asymmetrical 5-window front with regular fenestration of 2-light C19 casements, 6 panes per light, 5 to the ground floor, 3 to the first floor. C19 front door to the right under a long slate pentice carried on rustic wooden posts and rising as a timber gable in the centre. To the rear in the centre a slightly raised raking roof, possibly above the staircase, one 4-light ovolo-moulded mullioned window to the rear.
Interior: not thoroughly inspected, the central ground floor room has a chamfered unstopped cross beam, fireplaces said to have C20 grates. An outbuilding to the rear right (north east) forms a narrow rear courtyard with a parallel wall. To the south west a tall cob garden wall on stone rubble footings has corrugated iron and tile capping and a doorway leading to the farmyard and the circa C16 barn.
