Summary

Hut circle on the south-west side of the settlement. One of 20 huts associated with the settlement to the east of Leeden Tor. Internal diameter measures 4.3m. Wall 2m wide, 0.6m high. Doorway to south-south-west. Lies on southern edge of enclosed settlement and may originally have been enclosed.

Full description

Ordnance Survey Archaeology Division, 1950, SX57SE42, Hut C (Ordnance Survey Archaeology Division Card). SDV272875.

(28/08/1950) One of a group of four hut circles on Leeden Tor. SX 5642 7160 Hut 'C'. Much despoiled diameter 7.0 metres, wall height 0.3 metres, was apparently double walled, but now much spread. Entrance at south-south-west, condition fair, much overgrown with turf.

(17/07/1980) Centred at SX 56457164 on the southeast slope of Leeden Tor, at about 370 metres OD., is a settlement, spread over 1.8 hectares. More than half of the area is covered with erosion runnels and surface clitter, which thins towards the east and south. A total of twenty huts are identifiable.

This monument includes four enclosures, 16 stone hut circles and a number of rubble walls arranged within an enclosing boundary and forming an enclosed stone hut circle settlement, situated on a gentle east-facing slope of Leeden Tor overlooking the valley of the River Meavy.
