Child, P., Proposed conversion of agricultural building to dwelling, Mildon's Leigh, Chawleigh (Correspondence). SDV44163.

A four bay linhay, presumably designed for the accommodation of carts rather than cows since it faces directly onto the track rather than into a yard. The fifth bay is fully enclosed and was presumably to take the farmer's trap which deserved better protection than the field vehicles. The traphouse has a granary above it, approached by external steps, whereas the cart sections have the normal open loft of such linhays. The joints are bolted and the roof is supported by scissor trusses, both of which features indicate a fairly late 19th century date. This is not a bad example of this type of building and is in reasonably good condition.
