Lychgate and tomb slab about 10m south east of the church of st. Mary. Lychgate. C19 or earlier. Granite ashlar. Slated roof. Consists of 2 granite side-walls supporting a roof which appears to have been rebuilt in c20. Approached by a flight of 5 granite steps from street. Pair of iron gates with spear-heads to the uprights. Set into the ground under the lychgate, on the west side of the iron gates, is a re-set granite tomb slab dated 1603 (1604 in modern dating), commemorating richard washer. He was vicar of hennock 1576-1604, and was buried on 20 march 1603/4 (doe).
