Full description
Prowse, A. B., 1901, The Antiquities of Ockery and Roundhill, Dartmoor, 495-499 (Article in Serial). SDV233834.
One of a group of three cairns near Oakery. Cairns only a few yards distant from each other, made up of large rounded stones.
Ordnance Survey Archaeology Division, 1950, SX67SE56 (Ordnance Survey Archaeology Division Card). SDV271960.
Cairn A consists of a number of huge stones, loosely piled up. The height could be greater, but in view of the boggy grounds, precise measurements are impossible to make. Stones appear water worn and are not earth covered but overgrown with lichen. There is a cavity in the middle of the cairn. Condition fair. Diameter 5.5-3.5 meters, height 1.0 meter. Other details: Including plan.
Grinsell, L. V., 1978, Dartmoor Barrows, 151 (Article in Serial). SDV273224.
Cairn south-east of Oakery, north of Blackbrook River. Diameter 4.0 meters, height 0.9 meters (07/09/1972).
Royal Commission on the Historical Monuments of England, 1985, Aerial Photograph Project (Interpretation). SDV319854.
None of these cairns are visible on Royal Air Force 1946 vertical photos.
Gerrard, S., 2004, List of Sites Remaining to be Considered for Designation on Dartmoor (Un-published). SDV345444.
This site was considered for designation as a Scheduled Ancient Monument during the Monument Protection Programme. The programme ended before the entire list of sites was successfully scheduled so this is included on a local list of Nationally Important Sites.
Ordnance Survey, 2010, MasterMap (Cartographic). SDV344030.
