Summary

16th century or earlier farmhouse, with later additions. Stone rubble with thatched roof. In centre of ridge a large granite ashlar chimneystack with thatch weatherings and tapered top. Willmead Farmhouse. Farmhouse. 16th century or earlier, with later additions. Stone rubble with thatched roof. In centre of ridge a large granite ashlar chimneystack with thatch weatherings and tapered top.
Probably a 3-room plan originally; not clear if stack backs on to a cross-passage or stands in front of entrance, forming a lobby entry (which would make it a rare house in Devon). Two storeys, with single-storey addition to right. Four-window front to original range, the second bay from right having a two-storeyed stone entrance-porch. Ground storey of porch has an old wooden outer door frame, probably round-headed (under creeper) with durn jambs; panelled, early 18th century door at rear of porch. Windows have 20th century wood casements with mullions and leaded panes.
Closer inspection refused, but house is said to have a 'minstrels' gallery and an old roof. This is clearly a house of considerable quality and is likely to have features of interest inside.

Ordnance Survey, 2017, MasterMap (Cartographic). SDV359962.

Farmhouse is depicted on the modern mapping.
