1. Site visit 06/10/1950. A large, flat-topped bowl barrow (A). 22.0 metres diameter, 0.8 metres high. The barrow is in fairly good condition but has been despoiled on the west side revealing dark loam containing many fragments of local fine-grained sandstone and a few pieces of white spar close to the present turf covering. There are also several bands of charcoal visible. Slight traces of surrounding ditch.
2. Visited by L.V. Grinsell in 1971.
3. Site visit 07/11/1983. One of two barrows situated on a slight slope below the crest of the hill. Barrow A is a fine platform barrow, 22.0 metres diameter and 0.8 metres high. Rabbit scrapes and a slight mutilation shown the contents to be of stone and earth. There are faint traces of a ditch, clearest on the northeast and southwest sides where is it is not so much obscured by plough lines. Barrow crossed by narrow rig and furrow, traceable over much of the former common. Other details: Barrow A. Plan.

Greeves, T. A. P., 1996, Personal comment to A. M. Dick (Personal Comment). SDV342369.

T. Greeves reported, following a site visit in June 1996, that the barrow is still much as it was in 1983.

Department for Culture, Media and Sport, 2001, Bowl Barrow 340 metres East of The Firs, Forming Part of a Round Barrow Cemetery at Heathfield (Schedule Document). SDV342365.

Bowl barrow situated on a high and prominent upland ridge, an outlier to a round barrow cemetery at Heathfield to the east. The barrow, which straddles a parish boundary, comprises a circular mound, 22 metres in diameter and up to 0.7 metres high. Surrounding the mound is the quarry ditch from whch material to construct the mound was derived. This is traceable on the ground and measures up to a maximum of 4.4 metres wide and 0.1 metres deep. The mound is largely flat-topped, albeit slightly uneven in appearance with steep sides. Some animal scrapes reveal that the mound is composed of dark gritty loam and small stones. On the western side is a depression which measures up to 2 metres wide and 0.1 metres deep which may represent an old excavation trench. See schedule document for full details. Other details: Monument No. 34282.
