HER Number:MDV38709
Name:ROAD in the Parish of Honiton

Summary

Honiton - axminster (a35). The a35 course leaving honiton is probably modern - as a c19 turnpike road it cuts on an earlier field pattern. The roman route is most likely along northcote hill - this is a continuation of the ne/sw roman alignment which projects east beyond honiton. At northcote hill farm the road bifurcates with the ne branch (old chard road) being the dominant routeway. The presumed roman alignment runs se from there (st10se/42). An alternative route ascending the hill would be along tunnel lane (st10se/194) (goodyer).
