Agnes's (new) Shaft at Wheal Emma mine was sunk when the ground at Agnes's (old) Shaft (see PRN 51100) to the north became unworkable. The survey in 2002 found the choked shaft up to 4.5m diameter. The balance (or angle) bob mounting was identified to the southwest of the shaft. The box of granite stone was 3m long x 1.8m wide with iron pivot mounting bolts. Between the balance bob box & the shaft the balance bob mounting was built on a plinth 3.5m long x 0.6m high. The capstan shown on the 1867 & 1884 maps remained as a 0.5m high circular bank of 4m diameter with damage to the south & east sides. To the northeast of the shaft an adit portal was identified at SX43527359 with timber lined lintels & vertical supports & an opening 0.45m widw x 0.2m deep. No evidence was found of the mine buildings shown on the 19C maps to the north centered on SX43507358. Other details: Sites 257,258,259.
