Linear cropmarks of possible ditched features were visible on the gentle north-west facing hillslopes east of Poltimore, on aerial photographs of 1984. The cropmarks were generally less than 1.5 metres in width and aligned roughly north-west to south east, some visible for over 250 metres. The dispersal and arrangement of the possible ditches appears too irregular to be evidence of a systematic arrangement of field drains as suggested by a precious authority and their date and function are unknown.
Many of the aerial photographs consulted by the survey are copies of DAPs held by the Historic England Archive. In some cases these have been recorded as separate sources. This is because variations in the way the prints have been processed could result in images on which archaeological features are visible to a greater or lesser degree.
