The area to the rear of 45 High Street in Barnstaple may originally have been open space garden or stabling but had been covered by 19th century warehousing and storage. One of the buildings had elaborate barge-boarding around the western gable end and a large arched doorway on the upper floor with decorative brick and an adjacent fine iron hoist. Another building was a warehouse with two iron lintels inscribed 'John Jennison's Patent, Manchester'. Map object based on this source.
