Full description

Ordnance Survey, 1880s, Ordnance Survey (Cartographic). SDV848.

'Watson's Shaft' shown on OS 25" (1880s & 1905) maps. The earlier map shows two rectangular buildings at right angles to each other with a small spoil heap to the east. The later map shows the outline of one rectangular structure with a larger spoil heap to the east. Other details: Also on OS 25" (1905) map.

Watson's Engine Shaft & spoil tips shown on the 19c maps. The survey in 2002 found large spoil heaps to the east of the shaft up to 8m high with at least five finger dumps. No evidence for the shaft was found. Other details: Site 383.
