The site is labelled as an 'Old Chalk Pit' on the Second Edition 25 inch Ordnance Survey map. The layout of the old chalk pit coincides with that of a 'Coppice' within plot 115 on the Axmouth Tithe Map of 1842. The area is labelled as a 'Pit (disused)' on the Ordnance Survey Master Map.
