The field name 'Whicker's Close and Pit' within plot 697 on the Axmouth Tithe Map of 1842 indicates the proximity of the field to a possible pit. A pit labelled as the 'Old Flint Pit' is illustrated against the southern boundary of this field on both the First and Second Edition 25 inch Ordnance Survey maps.
