A probable ring ditch of later prehistoric date is visible on aerial photographs as a cropmark up to 2 metres wide enclosing an area 8 metres in diameter on the west-facing slopes overlooking the Exe valley to the south and west of Great Pitt Farmhouse, Silverton. The cropmark could be interpreted as the remains of a small barrow of Bronze Age date or an unenclosed hut circle of Iron Age to Roman date; the site’s proximity to a complex of possible enclosures of later prehistoric to Roman date to the south-east might make the latter interpretation more probable.
