West Pennicknold including adjoining barn.
Farmhouse. Late 18th century with probably mid 19th century addition. Rendered rubble walls. Gable-ended slate roof. Brick stack at each end and large rendered lateral stack at rear of outshut with brick shaft.
Plan: the main range has a 2-room plan with larger kitchen/living room to the left and smaller parlour or service room to the right which may have originally been unheated. In circa mid-19th century substantial rear outshut added comprising dairy, scullery, back kitchen etc. Also at this time a large barn/animal house range was added at the right end which had a threshing barn on the 1st floor and an engine house in front at the higher ground level.
Exterior: 2 storeys. Asymmetrical 4-window front with original 16-pane hornless sashes on the 1st floor and later facsimiles below. 19th century gabled porch to right of centre with 20th century glazed door behind. Lower stone barn at right-hand end with remains of horse engine house at front but facing onto rear yard with wide central doorway, a narrower one towards each end and 2 1st floor loading hatches.
Interior: main left-hand room has large open fireplace with plain wooden lintel. Possibly original built-in cupboard to right with panelled door.
