Full description

South West Heritage Trust, 1838-1848, Digitised Tithe Maps and Transcribed Apportionments (Cartographic). SDV359954.

'Bowden' is shown on the Tithe Map, with the shippon building at the north of the farm.

Shippon/linhay approximately 8 metres to the north-west of Bowden farmhouse. Row of shippons with hay tallet above. Circa early-mid 19th century.
Granite rubble walls with larger quoins. Corrugated iron roof, gable ended. Row of shippons each with separate access on ground floor, possibly stable at left end, and open-fronted hay tallet above. Two storeys. Asymmetrical front with four irregularly placed doorways on the ground floor and window opening to the left, all with granite lintels. On the first floor are five wide openings to hay tallet divided by monolithic granite posts, now filled in with weatherboarding.
