Full description

Milestone marked, M.S. Exeter 14. The milestone is shown at the front of Milestone Cottage, now Fernside.

Department of Environment, 1985, Morchard Bishop, 118 (List of Blds of Arch or Historic Interest). SDV337234.

Milestone approximately 7m south west of Wayside. Wayside milestone. Probably early C19. Granite. Upright rectangular slab inscribed in demi-bold Roman serif letters 'XI miles from Exon'.

Site visit 19th April 2006. Milestone down from the main part of Morchard Bishop village, against the wall, on the south-west side of the road, opposite Wayside Cottage. Inscribed XIV/Miles/From/Exon. The stone, which is Grade II listed, dates to c.1773. The stone is very close to the road. Part of the stone is missing from the top right hand edge.
