The western of two 'Tumuli' shown on 19th century map.

Ministry of Works, 1923, Fourbarrow Head (Ashwater Parish). Group II (Schedule Document). SDV339654.

One of four round barrows on Fourbarrow Head on Langaford Moor which do not seem to have been opened. Barrow B is the western of a row of three barrows with an outlier to the north-west.

Barrow A is a large bowl barrow ploughed over and somewhat spread. 32 metres in daimeter by 1.2 metres high and damaged on the north side. Flat topped with no trace of surrounding ditch. North west side overgrown with brambles and gorse.

Visited 27th April 1969. Possibly a bell barrow, appearance of berm 9 paces wide on west and south west, 6 paces wide on east. Absent on north and south. A puzzling site. Diameter 30 paces, height 3.5 feet.

Visited 2nd July 1979. Diameter 30 metres, height 1.25 metres. Flattened and spread to a certain extent but no sign of ploughing for a long time. In rush moor (looks like permanent meadow). Flat topped, no evidence of ditch mentioned by Grinsell. Good condition.

Four bowl barrows on Langaford Moor. The monument includes four Bronze Age bowl barrows situated on Langaford Moor. The barrows occupy a high upland ridge and form part of a concentration of similar monuments in the area. The four barrows are aligned east to west along the line of th natural ridge. An outlier, subject to a separate scheduling is situated to the north. The westernmost barrow survives as a 35 metre diameter circular flat-topped mound standing up to 1.2 metres high. All four barrows are surrounded by a 2 metre wide buried ditch.

Two Bronze Age bowl barrows, one of which was originally interpreted as a bell barrow. The westernmost barrow is 35 metres in diameter and 1.2 metres high. The other is 29 metres in diameter and 0.5 metres high.
