An irregular shaped depression circa 95 metres in length with surrounding banks up to 25 metres in width are visible as earthworks on visualisations derived from lidar data captured in 2005. The earthworks are situated beneath a small woodland on a gentle south-west facing slope north-west of Coombe Farm.
The earthworks correspond with the earthworks of an ‘Old Quarry’ depicted on the Ordnance Survey 25-inch First Edition map and subsequent maps. The plot is depicted as a plantation on the Tithe Map. The plot is visible as woodland in modern aerial photographs and those dating from the 1940s.
The earthworks are interpreted as an extractive pit with spoil heaps of post-medieval origin, that probably ceased to be worked prior to circa 1840 and planted with trees.
The depression had been previously transcribed by the Tamar Valley NMP and has been re-transcribed based on lidar data.
