The barn at Chenson Farm is a most unusual structure for this part of the county. This type of barn seems more common in the South Hams. The principal characteristic of this type of barn is that it is built end-on into the bank to provide a loading access in the upper part of the gable and is often built entirely separate from any farmstead. The evidence for a rear door is very slight. The type of roof truss would indicate an C18 date although the head of a C15 cusped window has been re-used on its side to provide a little window in the upper gable.
