One of 12 adits or shafts of Old Combmartin Mine, indicated by Claughton as having been sunk, reopened or worked in the 19th century. Other details: Includes map.

Maxwell's Shaft. The main winding shaft. Ground around has now reverted to gardens, but is at a much higher level than before, sitting on the vast quantity of 'deads' wound from the shaft using a 14" steam whim.
