Beacon down 175m above sea level. Burnet morris index, exeter city library. P. M. D. , 145, considers the early form to signify high town. There is a totleigh in the parish which strongly suggests that the hill was a saxon lookout post. On the highest ground is the lonely church. Pre-elizabethan. Vis=7/11/1978 (os). Nothing in the nature of a beacon mound on the summit. The church does not stand on the highest point.
