No 9 (Bampton Antiques) on the west side of Castle Street in Bampton. House and shop. Probably early/mid 19th century. Colourwashed and rendered; slate roof, gabled at ends; left end stack with brick shaft. Plan: at the front there is a large room to the left and a shop to the right incorporating a shop doorway to its left. Exterior: 2 storeys. The 3-bay front elevation incorporates a good 19th century doorway integral with the shop window centre and right under a continuous fascia with cornice and dentil frieze. 2-leaf glazed door to the left with Gothick ogee arches, the door flanked by pilasters with sunk mouldings, applied rosettes and curved brackets. To the right a shop bay window with a brick plinth, the window of 7 cast iron lights plus 1 to each return with depressed ogee Gothick arches and little motifs in the spandrels. 19th century 16-pane sashes to ground floor window left and first floor centre; outer first floor windows are probably later 19th century 2 pane sashes with margin glazing. A pretty and unusual 19th century shop front.
