The south hams charter of ad 847 refers to the 'head of sedge spring' as a boundary marker. Hooke places this at sx684455; the os 6" (1953) at above ngr.

The boundary then runs 'thence to the east of the fortification (stadbury? see sx64ne/21)', to follow the present parish boundary (hooke).
