Full description

Ordnance Survey, 1938, 121NW. Revision of 1932-1933 with additions in 1938. Provisional Edition (Cartographic). SDV337452.

'Barracks Hill' is shown on 1938 map at SX79606085.

Brick built cavalry barracks constructed in 1794 for 58 men and 4 officers. An hospital was added in 1801, with beds for 10 percent of the barracks' occupants. Built to a standard plan resembling barracks at Barnstaple and Modbury and decommissioned in 1816.
